Woodhorn Colliery re-opened in October 2008, after being closed for more than two years. In that time Woodhorn has been constructed into an iconic new building, by Wansbeck District Council and Northumberland County Council, to house absorbing displays taking visitors on a fun journey through time in Northumberland; new galleries and space for Woodhorn's unique mining collection; and state-of-the art facilities for storing and accessing the county's archive records.

Longhirst has a variety of high quality sports activities available to hotel guests. These activities can also be booked as part of a training or conferencing event. They are suitable for sports related courses, corporate events or tournaments.

The Longhirst Hall Golf Club offers a choice of courses.
Cricket
Longhirst boasts a cricket ground with a first class standard square, which is home to Morpeth Cricket Club and which has regularly hosted games on behalf of Durham County Cricket Club's Academy side. Football and Hockey Pitch
This floodlit all weather pitch can be used all year round. It is suitable for eleven-a-side or three-a-side football or hockey matches. The pitches can be booked through the Longhirst Sports Club on 01670 791 505.
Tennis
There are six all weather floodlit tennis courts which can be booked through the Longhirst Sports Club on 01670 791 505.
Fitness Trails
A woodland trail through the grounds of the Hall is suitable for leisurely walks or jogging. Our reception team will be happy to direct you to the trails.

Our fitness room has a range of gym equipment. This is available to all of our guests and delegates as part of their stay.
